Who We Are
Who Is WFIRM?
WFIRM is the only regenerative medicine facility in the world where all research and development work is being conducted under one roof, allowing researchers to both develop new treatments and direct clinical studies that can lead to widespread availability. WFIRM scientists were the first in the world to successfully grow and implant a laboratory-grown organ into humans (bladder); today more than 40 different organs and tissues are in development in the laboratory.
We’re Leading A Global Transformation From Treatments To Cure
Driven by the urgent needs of patients all over the world, we have one focus – to make patients’ lives better. WFIRM is uniquely designed to make exponential leaps in the development of regenerative medicine therapies for disease and trauma. More than 550 scientists, clinicians, faculty and students from 64 different countries work together at WFIRM. In the US we collaborate with researchers and physicians from Alaska to Florida, New York to California, and all states in between.
In addition to the research conducted at WFIRM, more than 450 WFIRM-related research projects are underway with our partners at universities, medical centers, and military hospitals across the continent. Globally, we are currently collaborating with over 90 universities, medical centers, and hospitals across the world such as the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (London), the Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Neuro-regeneration, Nantong University, China, the University of Oxford, UK, the University of Sao Paolo, Brazil, the University of Zurich, and the University of Sydney.
